Julie Jiayu Zhang is a licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist in Boulder, CO, specializing in pain management, sports medicine, internal medicine and woman’s health.
She is committed to helping her patients achieve optimal health in an effective and compassionate way. She received her OMD degree in 1989 in China after completing five years of Chinese medical training. Since then, she has practiced and taught acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for over 20 years in both China and the US. She also practiced as a senior acupuncturist for the Chinese Olympic team in 1991-1992, where she applied her expertise in treating athletes’ pain & injury. She is also a co-author of several Chinese medicine text books published in China.
As Chief Acupuncturist and herbalist at Chengdu Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)Hospital in China, she worked closely with one of the country’s most renowned acupuncturists, Dr. Yuyi Wang, from whom she learned a great deal of advanced acupuncture techniques and consequently treated many rarely-seen and difficult cases. During that time, she also volunteered many hours traveling with prominent Chinese doctors to some remote areas of Sichuan Province in China to treat patients with no access to any medical care, thereby helping them to regain their quality of lives back. She was honored by the locals as the “Chinese Herbal Queen” for her compassionate concern and positive results.
Julie Jiayu Zhang has also taught as a professor at Southwest Acupuncture College since 2000 in Boulder, CO. In her capacity as a professor, she teaches courses in Advanced Acupuncture Techniques, Chinese Herbal Formulas and Classical Herbal Theory, as well as many other subjects.
Along with her formal academic training in Chinese Medicine and more than 25 years clinical experience, Julie offers her patients an individually designed acupuncture treatment plan to ensure their optimal health and well-being. Her approach to acupuncture addresses strengths, weakness and disease tendencies that are inherent to the constitution of each person. She effectively treats many difficult case that have shown little or no response to other types of medical treatment.
